Here is an introduction from Ms. Tullgren:
Dear Islander Students and Families,
I am so honored to join the Coronado school community as your new assistant principal! I can’t wait to share my knowledge and experiences to contribute to the success of Coronado High School and Palm Academy students.
I grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago very close to Great Lakes Naval Base. Weather tends to be brutal up there, so from a young age my dream was to move to California. I schemed, plotted and worked hard to make my dream a reality. Now going on my fourth year living in San Diego, I am humbled by the incredible experiences I’ve had and people I’ve met. I bought my first home in Bay Ho and one of my favorite things to do is walk my dog, Myko, and enjoy the beautiful bay and ocean views. I am very active in softball leagues all around San Diego and I’m an avid kettlebeller.
My educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Spanish Education from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Loyola University Chicago. I’ve had significant international experiences from Spain, Italy and Cuba that impact my work as an educator on a daily basis. I am coming to Coronado High School from High Tech High Media Arts in Point Loma where I served as the English Language Coordinator and Spanish teacher. Previously I taught and led in an alternative school in Chula Vista, as well as a dual-immersion school in Highland Park, Illinois.
What I am most excited about bringing to Coronado High School and Palm Academy is my background in progressive and alternative education and my passion for social justice in education. Providing all children with accessible and equitable educational experiences is the cornerstone of my practice. I look forward to getting to know each of you and serving you this year, I am so honored to be a part of the Islander family.
